Instagram Will Have Chronological Feed Again in 2022

Updated: May 14, 2022

In testimony to the US Senate, Adam Mosseri revealed that the company is working on an optional chronological feature.

Instagram is working to make a chronological feed available again to users of the application, available for Android phones and iPhone (iOS). The statement was made by the head of the social network, Adam Mosseri, in testimony to the United States Senate, on Wednesday (December 8).

According to him, the platform offers another possibility to people dissatisfied with rankings based on algorithms, which rank the posts currently displayed in the feed.

When Will The New Feature Be Released

A specific release date for the feature has not yet been set. However, Mosseri added that Instagram hopes to release the chronological version of the feed in 2022. “We believe in more transparency and accountability, and we believe in more control. That's why we're working on a version of a timeline feed that we hope to release next year," he said.

The return of the chronological feed is something users have been asking for since the post's display order was changed five years ago.

Information that Instagram is developing a chronological feed version came from Adam Mosseri's testimony to the US Senate on Wednesday (December 8).

Recently, the head of the social network was asked to a hearing to clarify issues involving child safety in the app. As a result, the businessman proposed the creation of a supervisory committee to determine good practices for children who access different data on the Internet.

Why They're Changing It

Since there was a change in the organization of the Instagram feed in 2016, many social network users report that they would like an option that would allow them to view posts in chronological order again.

A tool developed by the company to meet this demand is “Favorites”, which offers the possibility for the user to select profiles to appear at the top of the home screen.

Instagram's official Twitter profile also indicates that the chronological feed will not necessarily be implemented on all accounts. Instead, the social network is focused on offering optional features to users. "We want people to have significant control over their experience," adds the tweet.

What Changes for Companies

It is already known that there are specific times of increased access by users on social networks; however, with the distribution of Instagram content based on algorithms, this is a detail that was not so important for digital marketing.

But, with this change, companies should be aware of the times when their target audience is connected to the social network to deliver their content better.
